The electric vehicle (EV) market has experienced significant growth and maturity in recent years. According to the Global EV Outlook 2024 in 2023 new electric car registrations in Europe reached nearly 3.2 million, increasing by almost 20 % relative to 2022. Germany became the third country, following China and the United States, to register half a million new battery electric cars in that year, with 18 % of car sales being battery electric and another 6 % plug-in hybrid. The high sales rates of electric cars in Europe indicate the need for expanding charging networks and creating extensive high-performance infrastructure, which is crucial for supporting electric vehicles.
The Aachen-based charging infrastructure service provider elexon has taken on this challenge. The company is one of the innovators in developing a holistic plug-and-play charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The company’s mission extends beyond mere functionality and aims to maximize efficiency, promote sustainability, and establish clean energy solutions as the new standard for the state-of-the-art mobility of tomorrow. As a 360° system integrator, elexon is active in 20 European countries and installs around 10,000 charging points every year. In the search for suitable solutions to provide service and maintenance specialists with technical knowledge, elexon decided to cooperate with oculavis. Within a few weeks, the project planning, implementation, training, and the implementation of custom interfaces for the integration of the smart service platform into the existing project management system were completed.

elexon uses a versatile range of digital features of the smart service platform to support its field professionals and enhance service efficiency. Technicians can directly access step-by-step guides and documentation from the platform to solve technical issues. If that’s not sufficient, they can simultaneously involve multiple experts via AR visual assistance calls without the need for them to be physically present on-site. Using digital collaboration, the experts at elexon will continue to support their partners in the future, thus ensuring quality of work in the field. The AR annotation feature allows support experts to communicate precise visual instructions and promptly assist in problem-solving.

In addition, all information generated during a service call, including images and videos, is automatically stored in a specific case on the platform. Storing images and videos taken in the field means that the work carried out remains very well documented. The knowledge gained doesn’t get lost, can be transformed into digital work instructions, and is made available to the technical field service across the entire installed base. Direct access to technical knowledge ensures more accurate service planning and improved quality of on-site maintenance and troubleshooting.
